The Arcana Center for Integrative Medicine is a physician-owned practice dedicated to the promotion of health as a multidisciplinary process. This process is grounded in the three components of wellness: Health,Lifestyle and Education. Our goal is to be a resource in these components and to facilitate health in each individual. We measure success not by the absence of disease, but instead by the presence of wellness, defining health as a resource for everyday life. Our main treatment modalities include Osteopathic Manipulation, Sports Medicine, Integrative Medicine and other complementary modalities.
Arcana Center not only treats patients of all ages, but we regularly work with National Hockey League players, Major League Baseball players and Olympic figure skaters.
Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine restore Health by applying osteopathic principles in the practice of a hands-on treatment. This individualized treatment approach helps to alleviate pain, restore mobility and reduce or eliminate impediments by focusing on the natural motions within the body’s structure and its relationship to function. It also can increase athletic performance. Osteopathic knowledge and treatment considers the musculoskeletal system as well as the inter-relationships of all physiologic systems. This effective, gentle treatment can be utilized to treat patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly. Click here for more info.
Functional medicine is an individualized approach to medicine that uses conventional with additional laboratory, clinical assessments, and detailed lifestyle, personal, and family histories to address patients concerns. As the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM) describes it, “the functional medicine model is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors and leverages that data to direct personalized treatment plans that lead to improved patient outcomes.”
Neural therapy is a gentle, healing technique that involves the injection of local anesthetics, into autonomic nerve ganglia, peripheral nerves, scars, glands, acupuncture points, trigger points, and other tissues and is an effective treatment for chronic pain, especially when practiced by a well-trained physician. Neural therapy is also a wonderful complementary procedure for use with prolotherapy, a treatment that stimulates healing of ligaments, tendons and joints. Click here for more info.
Cupping therapy is an ancient Chinese form of manipulation in which local suction is created on the skin. Each cup creates a vacuum (negative pressure technique) on the patient’s skin to dispel stagnation, increase blood flow to the body’s tissues, and drain excess fluids and toxins by opening lymphatic pathways. When used on the back, neck, shoulders and other musculoskeletal regions, this technique lifts connective tissue, softens tight muscles, tones attachments, and loosens adhesions treating a broad range of medical conditions. Hypnosis is a trance-like state in which you have deep relaxation and focused concentration. You can reach this state purposely by yourself in the similar way that you reach a relaxed state with meditation, prayer, music, mantras, singing bowls, and the like. You can also be guided there will the assistance of a clinician trained in hypnotherapy. In their textbook on Integrative Medicine, Rakel et al, described hypnosis as “a system or collection of methods that allows us to enhance the communication and sharing of information between and within the mind-body. Because the body ‘hears’ everything that entered the subconscious mind, these methods are a way of accessing and influencing subconscious effects on the body.”
The ability to reach a purposeful, intentional trance state improves with practice. In a therapeutic or medical setting, hypnosis is a powerful tool in establishing purposeful, lowered brain waves, inducing a state of balanced calm, so that conditions such as anxiety, pain, IBS, insomnia, stress-overload, phobias, and other conditions can be addressed. Medical Hypnosis is a focused technique and a skill that allows the patient to both be therapeutically guided and to learn a technique to address their own goals and manifestations as well as release and resolve inner barriers to balanced, optimal health.
